How To Create A Unique wedding Reception
17.May 2013 By Sergio (Guest Post) Comments (0)

Your wedding day should be the best day of your life, and most of us hope that we’ll only have one wedding day in our lives! So an increasing number of brides and grooms to be are seeking out unique wedding reception ideas to make their big day extra special and memorable for their guests. There are literally hundreds of ways you can make your wedding reception stand out from the crowd but there are several key areas to focus on:

wedding reception

Develop a theme that will run right through your wedding from the invites to the big day itself. Choose something meaningful to you both. For example if he proposed in Las Vegas then you could go with a Vegas casino theme, with roulette tables and cabaret for entertainment! Or if you’re both comic book fans then a superhero wedding would really make your day stand out. Whatever theme you choose make sure you really run with it to create a unique and memorable wedding reception.

Once you know what your wedding theme is then you can choose an appropriate venue that can cater for your ideas. Having your wedding reception in a converted barn will be very different to having your reception in a stately home, and different again in the function room of a local sports club. If you’ve chosen a masquerade ball theme for your wedding reception then this will work better in a stately home; whereas a shabby chic, secret garden theme would work quite well in a barn provided the weather was on your side!

So you’re armed with your wedding theme and a reception venue, but how do you turn this blank canvas into your dream day? Find out from the venue how far in advance you can go in and decorate the room so that you can plan what you’ll need to buy or make decorations-wise. The room and tables could be dressed up to the nines but if you’ve not paid any attention to the lighting in the room then your guests won’t get the full effect of your theme. For example, the use of traditional wall lighting such as gothic torch lamps can enhance a medieval theme, especially if your reception venue is a castle!

Finishing touches

It’s a nice touch to incorporate your wedding theme into the food that you serve to guests too. If you’re doing a medieval wedding at a castle then why not serve a hog roast? If you’ve gone for a romantic Parisian theme then you could serve French delicacies such as paté on toast to start and duck a l’orange or cheese soufflé for main, followed by crème brûlée. Match the wedding favours to the theme as well. If you’ve chosen a Las Vegas casino theme then you could hand out personalised packs of cards, and mini slot machine candy dispensers to your guests!

Again keep it within your theme to really pull the whole day together. For a wedding with a Las Vegas theme you could set up a mini casino with roulette and blackjack tables, or a burlesque cabaret act! If you’ve gone with a medieval theme you could have a medieval-themed band playing your favourite songs on lutes whilst the meal is served, and a jester to entertain your guests later on! The important thing to remember is to think outside the box if you want something really unique. However, stick within your budget because you don’t want to start married life in debt because you blew half the budget on a world-class magician!
